Reasi, February 14: The three-day Maha Shivaratri Mela began with great religious fervour and enthusiasm at Ransoo in Reasi district. The mela is being organised by the District Administration Reasi in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Jammu and will continue till February 16.

A large number of devotees from across the district and adjoining areas gathered from early morning to seek blessings on the auspicious occasion. The event was formally inaugurated by Kuldeep Raj Dubey, MLA Reasi, in the presence of senior civil and police officers.

A grand Shobha Yatra from Tridev Hotel to Darshani Deodi marked the beginning of the celebrations. Devotional hymns, traditional drum beats and cultural performances added vibrancy to the spiritual gathering. Special prayers, bhajans and cultural programmes are being organised at Shiv Shakti Bhawan, while departmental stalls showcasing handicrafts and welfare schemes have also been set up.

Elaborate arrangements including security, sanitation, drinking water supply, electricity, traffic regulation and medical facilities have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the mela. Several langars are also providing free meals to devotees. The District Administration has appealed to the public to cooperate and maintain discipline during the mela period.
